"Quebecers, our way of being Canadian"

The government unveils its Policy on Québec Affirmation and Canadian Relations, an invitation to begin a dialogue

The Premier of Québec and the Minister responsible for Canadian Relations and the Canadian Francophonie have unveiled the Policy on Québec Affirmation and Canadian Relations: "Quebecers, our way of being Canadian".

The Policy is intended to establish a new relationship of trust and openness in Canadian relations, leading to recognition for national and collective identities.

The Policy explains how, on the basis of more than 400 years of history including 150 years as a member of the Canadian Federation, Quebecers are able to reconcile pride in their identity as a nation with a deeply-seated sense of belonging to Canada. It reaffirms Québec's nationhood and sets out the principles that will guide Québec in the conduct of its Canadian relations.

On the basis of this Policy, Québec intends to build even stronger bridges with its partners, affirm its national character and its full expression on the Canadian scene, and also to present its vision of Canada in the 21st century that provides for full recognition of individual and collective identities.

The Policy on Québec Affirmation and Canadian Relations can be viewed on the website of the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes.
